Islamabad police arrest ex-senator Mushtaq Ahmed

The Islamabad police arrested on Saturday Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Mushtaq Ahmed during a protest at Express Chowk related to the ‘Save Gaza’ campaign.

The incident occurred as Ahmed attempted to lead a demonstration in the federal capital. According to reports, police officers from the Secretariat Police Station took the former senator into custody, escorting him away in a police vehicle.

Earlier, during a similar protest linked to the ‘Save Gaza’ campaign, police also arrested Humaira Tayyaba, the campaign’s leader. Her arrest sparked further protests from activists, intensifying the situation in the city.

Earlier in March, the Islamabad police had tried to arrest Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed following the latter’s return from the “Gaza Solidarity March” on Sunday.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ahmed said: “Islamabad police have tried to arrest me. The children and my family were in the car. The police have chased my car. Efforts were made to even snatch mobile phones from my son and driver.”

“I had been asked to show my identity card. When I showed my identity card, the police officials threatened me,” Ahmed added.

Moreover, there was a heated exchange between the officers and Ahmed.
