The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced a bank holiday on Wednesday – August 14, 2024 – in observance of Independence Day.
According to a press release issued by the SBP on Thursday, all branches of the central bank, its regional offices, public sector, and private banks, as well as other financial institutions across the country, will remain closed on the day.
The holiday has been declared by the Government of Pakistan’s decision to observe Independence Day as a public holiday nationwide. Regular banking operations will resume on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
The announcement comes as part of the country’s annual tradition of marking its independence from British colonial rule on August 14, 1947.
The day is celebrated with various activities, including flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, and cultural events, with public offices and institutions observing the holiday.
