Election campaign will end at 12 pm tonight, action will be taken on violation, Election Commission

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has said that the election campaign for the general elections 2024 will end at 12 o’clock tonight.
According to the spokesperson of the Election Commission, all the candidates and parties participating in the elections are informed that the election campaign period will end at 12 midnight tonight under Section 182 of the Elections Act, 2017.
The spokesperson further said that no candidate or party will be allowed to conduct jalsa, procession, corner meeting or similar political activity after the expiry of the time and legal action will be taken against the violator. After the expiry of the period, there is a ban on the publication of election campaigns, advertisements and other written materials in the electronic and print media which are suspected of supporting or opposing a particular political party or candidate.
According to the Election Commission, there will be a ban on all kinds of poll surveys on the media until the election process is held. The media may start reporting the results one hour after polling ends, clearly stating that the results are tentative and unofficial. The Returning Officer will announce the results of the polling stations.
According to the Election Commission, electronic and print media will strictly follow the code of conduct and instructions have been issued to PEMRA and PTA to take legal action for violation.
On the other hand, the Election Commission has issued a notification to appoint 2 spokespersons. According to the notification, Nighat Siddique and Hamid Raza Khan have been appointed as spokespersons of Election Commission. Both spokespersons will be in touch with the provincial spokespersons and will be available 24 hours a day until the election process is completed.
