Leaked WhatsApp messages reveal internal conflict in PTI leadership

Recent WhatsApp messages between Aleema Khan, sister of PTI’s founder, and PTI Secretary General Raoof Hassan have unveiled internal conflicts within the party leadership. The messages, dated June 23, 2023, highlight disagreements over narratives surrounding the party founder’s imprisonment.

Aleema Khan shared a message allegedly from Bushra Bibi, detailing an emotional account of a prison visit with the PTI founder. However, Aleema Khan instructed Hassan to suppress this information, calling it “foolish” and “disinformation.”

The message attributed to Bushra Bibi included claims about restricted prison visits and alleged threats to the PTI founder’s life. It also referenced Army Chief Asim Munir, suggesting he was monitoring conversations.

Political analysts suggest these exchanges reveal a power struggle between Aleema Khan and Bushra Bibi for control over the party. They argue that Bushra Bibi may be attempting to garner sympathy votes through potentially fabricated narratives, while Aleema Khan seeks to maintain her influence within the party.

The leaked conversation also demonstrates Aleema Khan’s apparent authority over party communications, as evidenced by her directives to the Secretary General.

This development exposes deep-seated tensions within the PTI leadership and raises questions about the authenticity of public statements made by party figureheads.
