The anti-polio campaign of giving polio drops to children under 5 years of age has been started across the country.
According to the spokesman of the health department, during the campaign, the polio teams of the health department will go door to door in all 159 districts of the country and administer polio drops to the children.
During the week-long polio campaign in Punjab province, 22.5 million children will be administered polio vaccine.
The 7-day anti-polio campaign in Sindh province will continue from January 8 to 14. In 30 districts of the province, more than one crore children will be vaccinated against polio virus.
4,225 security personnel will be assigned to protect more than 37,000 vaccination teams on the polio campaign.
The Caretaker Health Minister said that polio virus was found in 11 of the environmental samples obtained from 28 places in Sindh.
Last year, poliovirus was confirmed in two children of UC Gujru District East of Karachi.
In addition, during the week-long campaign in Balochistan, more than 2.5 million children under the age of five will be administered anti-polio shots.
During the 5-day campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan, more than 250,000 children will be given drops.
